Abstract
Catering and hospitality students and apprentices may be missing out on rewarding careers in the public sector simply because they do not know about the opportunities available.

That is why this year’s PSC Expo, organised by Public Sector Catering magazine, will be showcasing the skills, creativity and rewards of chefs with a special Public Sector Kitchen feature hosted by TV’s Dr Rupy Aujla.

This will be a key part of day two of the Expo on March 16th at the NEC, when students will get a chance to see some top chefs who are currently working in schools, hospitals, the care sector and prisons as they prepare high quality, tasty meals to exacting nutritional standards and on tight budgets.

As well as demonstrating the food, they will talk to Dr Rupy about how they are able to meet these challenges, and the rewards of their work.

Among the chefs scheduled to take part are:

  • Rob Chambers – the current School Chef of the Year who moved into the education sector after a career in restaurants
  • Paul Buckney and Kevin Carron, from Her Majesty’s Prison Service
  • Sanish Thomas and Sinto Mulavarickal from East Lancashire Hospital, recent winners of the NHS Chefs competition
  • Aaron Watson – the Care Chef of the Year 2021

Students and apprentices will have the chance to see dishes prepared, taste them and talk to the chefs behind them.

The Expo also includes a dedicated Association Zone where the key organisations representing the public sector catering industry will showcase the work they do and be ready to discuss with students the career opportunities in schools, universities, hospitals, the care sector, prisons and the military.

The Expo is supported by the Professional Association of Catering Education (PACE), which will also be part of the Zone.
