Apetito supports hospitals with ‘unique’ food waste training programme
Abstract
Healthcare meals provider Apetito is offering specialist training to hospitals focusing on how to reduce levels of food waste as well as conducting detailed audits to help make tailored recommendations.

Food waste is a global issue with both environmental and economic impacts. According to research 33% of all food produced globally is being wasted every year.

Awareness of this issue is being pushed to the forefront this month through campaigns around Stop Food Waste Day on Wednesday 24th April. The staff training specifically covers several food waste streams including production waste, serving waste and plate waste.

With a dedicated Training and Operations team in place the ‘unique’ offering supports NHS Trusts working towards wider net zero ambitions as well as helping to mitigate unnecessary costs currently incurred through throwing food into the bin.

Neil Hargreaves, general manager of healthcare at Apetito, said: “We are extremely proud to be adding further value into the healthcare sector by offering this specialised training through our Training and Operations team. We understand that food waste is a growing concern for many Trusts and recognise the importance of rectifying this from both an economic and environmental standpoint, particularly with the increased NHS focus on its journey to net zero.

“We encourage anyone interested in receiving this training to reach out for a conversation with a member of our team, whether an existing customer or those not currently using our service. We feel passionately about sharing our knowledge and experience to help best combat this challenge.”
