Abstract
A new partnership between HIT Training and the Institute of Hospitality will see the duo invest in the future careers of UK hospitality apprentices, to create “a sustainable talent pipeline.”

With recruitment and retention challenges up against the sector, Institute of Hospitality head of professional development, Alistair Sandall, acknowledged that “some starters in (the hospitality) industry don’t stay long enough to build successful careers.

“First impressions are critical. Millennials want to feel connected. If we give newcomers the very best experience of our industry and its diverse and exciting opportunities; welcome them and provide a community and sense of belonging; then we stand a much better chance of creating a sustainable talent pipeline of future managers and leaders.”

Under the new agreement, HIT Training hospitality apprentices will enroll into student membership of the Institute of Hospitality, to give them further development benefits and support. This applies to all existing and 2019 starters.

Additional resources include: a mentoring scheme; webinars, journals, management guides and e-newsletters; and networking and awards events to keep students “motivated and engaged”.

Managing director of HIT Training, Jill Whittaker, concluded: “Now is an exciting time to work in the hospitality industry and with so many job opportunities available, it’s essential that we encourage new talent into the industry and provide them with the right tools to help them enjoy a longstanding career.

“This partnership with the Institute of Hospitality will ensure that the apprentices we work with have access to a wealth of learning resources, support and networking opportunities in addition to their apprenticeship.

“The arrangement also has added benefits for the apprentices’ employers who are looking to stand out in a competitive marketplace, by offering their staff the best employment package possible.”
