WFNF policy conference to discuss next steps for food security

Abstract
The Westminster Food & Nutrition Forum (WFNF) policy conference, taking place on 20 January 2022, will examine policy priorities for strengthening food security in the UK.

The event will be an opportunity to assess the Agricultural Act and the Environment Bill as well as the recommendations outlined in the National Food Strategy which are expected to inform a government white paper within the next six months.

Delegates will discuss the impact that Brexit, Covid-19 and climate change have on the supply chain. Attendees will also consider the latest strategies and frameworks that can be implemented to help deal with future developments and protect against disruption.

Sessions on the agenda include:

  • Learning from the disruption caused by the pandemic, EU exit and climate change, and building resilience across the sector.
  • Meeting the challenge of climate change, driving sustainability and productivity and taking forward the outcomes from COP26.
  • Improving access to healthy food options, taking forward the National Food Strategy, and working towards a more food secure UK.

Professor Sir Charles Godfray, director of the Oxford Martin School Programme on the Future of Food, will deliver a keynote speech on Global and national; equitable, healthy and sustainable - the different dimensions of food security’.

Other keynote speakers at the event include Dustin Benton policy director at Green Alliance, Daniel Crossley executive director of the Food Ethics Council and Professor Sandy Thomas chair of the science council at the Food Standards Agency.
