Abstract
ShelfNow, Europe’s first intelligent online B2B marketplace, shares insight on how it supports its partners to become more environmentally conscious through using its online marketplace.

The latest report issued by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) drastically highlights the impact of the food and beverage industry on our environment and the need for companies to reduce their carbon footprint.

The IPCC study warns that agriculture and deforestation is responsible for around 25% of global emissions which are set to increase 30% by 2050 if the food and beverage industry doesn’t innovate.

Philip Linardos, co-founder and chief executive of ShelfNow, said: “Sustainability and reducing ShelfNow’s carbon footprint is an integral part of our mission to reinvent conventional food and drink wholesale, which is our key focus as a business. By offering our partners more eco-friendly options and forms of logistics, we are helping smaller, independent businesses to operate in a more sustainable way.

“Furthermore, as the demand is growing for more sustainable products we are able to work exclusively with artisan, ethical producers. This year, we look forward to developing the Last Mile Delivery service across more UK locations as so far it has been a huge success.”

ShelfNow adapting logistics to reduce carbon footprint

ShelfNow has implemented the ‘Last Mile Delivery’ in London which is an outsourced service that offers its partners sustainable fulfilment by exclusively using bicycles, e-cargo bikes, ULEZ friendly vans and vehicles to complete customers’ orders.

One of its logistics and storage partners aims to have 85% of its vehicles completely green by the end of 2022 and carbon neutral by 2025.

Currently, the Last Mile Delivery service is available in London but ShelfNow has plans to expand this fulfilment service across all of its UK locations and provide a hyperlocal delivery service.

ShelfNow works with innovative brands

ShelfNow is committed to working with innovative yet sustainable brands that are striving to achieve zero waste and minimise their impact on the environment.

So far this year they have onboarded sustainable brands such as Purus Drinks, an organic, vegan and alcohol free sparkling wine that is produced in an environmentally friendly manner. Another new addition to ShelfNow’s marketplace is Gattertop Drinks, one of the UK’s first carbon-neutral beverage companies.

The craft vodka company is sustainably driven and is committed to preserving and protecting the orchards in its production zone to safeguard the landscape where it produces its vodka.

ShelfNow offers multi-drop delivery option

The fulfillment system uses one van and makes multiple drops on a pre-plotted route which allows for the maximising of each vans’ capacity and reduces the number of vehicles on the road to help improve overall efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
