22nd Mar 2012 - 00:00
Abstract
Hospitality and Catering education at the College of Food at University College Birmingham (UCB) has been declared ‘Outstanding’ by the latest Ofsted inspection.
The report noted that 'teaching is excellent' and that 'outcomes for students are outstanding'. Teaching sessions were highlighted as dynamic and in the 'superb learning resources' the quality and range of produce used was said to add significant value to students learning and extended beyond qualification requirements. Neil Rippington, Dean, College of Food at University College Birmingham, said: "Providing the best possible experience for our students is paramount and to be rated as 'outstanding' for what we do is a great compliment. Inspectors noted that our students 'consistently excel' in high profile catering competitions, as shown with our Toque d'Or wins two years running. "We appreciate the support given to the College by the industry and it remains our mission to continue meeting the needs of employers by giving students the skills they need to exceed in future job roles." The College of Food offers a range of vocational courses with progression routes to degree programmes as well as Apprenticeships in hospitality, bakery and chef catering.
