Cancer Research bowled over by Compass’ fundraising

9th Jul 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
As England takes on Australia in the Ashes, just one week earlier Compass Group raised more than £15,000 for Cancer Research UK through a charity cricket day held at the Brit Oval.
Ten teams of cricket enthusiasts from Compass' suppliers were each accompanied by a current or former international cricketer from England, New Zealand, Australia and Holland including the England wicket keeper from the recent 20-20, James Foster. The phenomenal sum was raised not only through team sales but through sales from the 160-person seated dinner, shirt sponsorship by Diageo, sponsored stumps by Pacific Brands, an auction raising approximately £5,000 hosted by Lord Jeffrey Archer and a raffle. Allan Edwards, corporate affairs and corporate responsibility director, said: "I am delighted with the amount of money we raised for Cancer Research through this one event, bringing us even closer to our ambitious quarter of a million pound target. The day was a phenomenal success and to have such high profile players mentoring the teams at a venue of such significance made the day memorable for all involved. We hope that this will mark the first in a series of annual Compass Charity Cricket days."
