The activity saw 40 children attend a session about the importance of making healthy food choices, including small but powerful changes they can make to their cooking and eating habits. Children enjoyed choosing their own ingredients to make and taste energy balls.
The sessions were delivered by a Chartwells Schools nutritionist. Structured around the Eatwell Guide, children learned the importance of eating a balanced diet, as well as engaging in quality time with friends and family.
Charlotte Macey, nutritionist at Chartwells Schools, said: “The HAF programme is a lifeline for many families during the school holidays, and we’re proud to support it. The Leicester Tigers Foundation do phenomenal work engaging the local community and we were delighted to partner with them to help deliver engaging activities over the Christmas period.
“By working closely with our local charities and community centres, we’re able to extend our support beyond the school gates and outside of term time – bringing healthy meals, engaging activities, and lasting knowledge to the communities we serve, helping to build brighter futures.”
Chartwells Schools is committed to providing young people with delicious, nutritious meals and food education both during and outside of term time and has supported HAF projects since 2018.
Throughout the academic year of 2024-25, the education caterer delivered 145 HAF days and impacted 4,882 people, an increase of 62% and 67% on the previous academic year respectively.
