Coinciding with International Respect for Chickens Day, the campaign took place from 28th April to 4th May. It featured an array of informative resources and vegan recipes, with a focus on egg and chicken substitutes.
As part of the week-long campaign, Veganuary released the Chicken-Free Mini Cookbook, packed with recipes that prove you don’t need meat or eggs to enjoy your favourite dishes.
Among the contributors was beloved musician and chef Levi Roots, who has donated a special plant-based chilli and honey ‘chicken’ recipe – bringing bold flavour without the cruelty.
Wendy Matthews, chief executive of Veganuary, said: “Chickens are the most abused land animals on Earth, yet their suffering is often overlooked. With the Choose Chicken-Free campaign, Veganuary is highlighting the cruelty behind the industry and showing people just how easy (and delicious) it can be to choose compassionate alternatives.”
