The trustees are coming on board to support the organisation to achieve its strategic vision to remove barriers and open up volunteering for all. RVS operates cafes and food trolleys within hospitals providing refreshments and support to staff and patients.
Royal Voluntary Service mobilises volunteers to build a stronger, better-connected Britain. They believe in volunteering for all, and in growing participation across all backgrounds, ages and abilities so everyone can volunteer.
Mills has led the UK’s largest food and support services company since 2019. He champions a people-first culture and launched a social mobility strategy to support over one million people by 2030 through jobs, education, training, volunteering, as well as community and charitable partnerships.
He said: “Having worked with Royal Voluntary Service in a professional capacity, I know the impact volunteering has on social mobility, which is a passion of mine. I am looking forward to sharing my time with the charity as a Trustee and supporting the organisation to achieve its ambitious goals.”
RVS has also set up an inaugural Next Gen Board, a space for under-30s, to provide insight, challenge and connectivity to younger generations of volunteers. Juhie Radia has been appointed as its chair with recruitment to the wider membership underway.
Radia added: “To break down barriers for younger generations, you need to listen to younger generations, so I’m eager to facilitate these conversations so that more people can access the host of benefits that volunteering offers.”
