14th Apr 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Compass Group UK & Ireland has retained a seven-year contract to supply hospitality and retail services to The Goodwood Estate.
The deal is worth £6.5 million revenue in year one, growing year on year to £9 million by the final year of the contract. The caterer will be supplying hospitality and retail services for the 23 race days including the highlight of the social summer season, Glorious Goodwood, and also the catering for the two main motor sport events, Festival of Speed and Revival. These events all attract more than 500,000 visitors to the Goodwood Estate. As part of the contract, Compass is also investing £1.5 million to refurbish the kitchens, install a central production unit and enhance the retail offer. The central production unit will not only bring greater flexibility to the racecourse but will also expand the operation to produce the Goodwood Estate's own range of organic products. Samantha Axtell, chief operating officer at Goodwood Estate Company Limited commented on the deal: "Compass Group is the right partner for Goodwood. The team knows our business well and has worked closely with us to understand our customers, together with the Goodwood experience. Their track record in delivering quality food with excellent service at large events was critical to our decision making." Matthew Thompson, managing director of Compass Group's sports, leisure and hospitality sector, added: "We are absolutely delighted to retain the contract with Goodwood to service such high profile and prestigious events. The horse and motor racing industry is a key part of our business and we seek always to refresh and revise our offer to meet the needs of our clients and their customers. "While there is a lot of associated tradition to both activities, we understand how they attract a diverse group of visitors who are seeking different hospitality experiences. Compass Group is well placed to deliver those experiences."
