Contract caterer Sodexo hosts 'meet the buyer' event in Wales

15th Jun 2010 - 00:00
Abstract
Contract caterer Sodexo has held a two-day 'meet the buyer' event in Wales to engage with the key food suppliers in the industry and source quality Welsh produce for its services.
Recently held at St Athan, the aim of the event was to develop links with Welsh food producers and help people integrate quality Welsh produce into Sodexo's supply chain, while also supporting them to promote their produce within Wales and further afield. Meanwhile the forum gave Sodexo the opportunity to communicate its commitment to sustainable procurement and healthy eating, in particular the 'Better Tomorrow Plan', the company's sustainability strategy until 2020. It was also a chance to explain what Sodexo expects of its suppliers, in order to ensure that supplier code of conduct targets are met. Steve Jobson, buying director, Sodexo UK and Ireland, said: "The event provided us with an exciting opportunity to meet some truly outstanding Welsh suppliers, with whom we hope to work closely with in the future. "We are committed to providing quality produce and in order to meet the objectives of our sustainable procurement strategy, we are keen to engage with suppliers that can meet the demands of our Welsh customers and clients." Elin Jones, The minister for Rural Affairs, added: "This event forms part of the Local Sourcing and Food Tourism Strategic Action Plans which set out proposals to develop the links between food and tourism and maximise their contribution to the Welsh economy. With the tourism industry becoming increasingly more competitive, cultural distinctiveness is seen as critical for a destination to standout."
