28th Jun 2010 - 00:00
Abstract
An eight year old student from Woodham Burn Primary School in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, has won a World Cup cookery competition with her dish entitled Hand of Cod.
Lily Mansfield, who got her inspiration from Diego Maradona's controversial goal in a World Cup quarter final in 1986, impressed judges with her fishy dish and, as a reward, was allowed to invite her mum and dad into school to sample it. Head teacher Riannon Rowe said: "All of our pupils enjoy the school dinners in school. We pride ourselves on them and none of the pupils bring packed lunches. They are also very popular with staff. "Everybody enjoys lunchtimes and competitions such as this bring the pupils together for fun that everyone can enjoy." The cookery contest, to design a World Cup themed dish, was held as part of the School's Let's Get Cooking Club. School cooks made Mansfield's meal for everyone to enjoy.
