The Craft Guild announces its roll call of Honours & Awards for 2011

16th Apr 2012 - 00:00
Abstract
Forty-nine members and supporters of the Craft Guild of Chefs were singled out for honours at its special awards ceremony at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington on Sunday, April 15, following its Annual General Meeting.
Craft Guild chairman Andrew Green welcomed everyone to the special awards lunch and invited the chairman of the Worshipful Company of Cooks, Geoff Osborne, to join him in presenting the honours and awards. Announcing the recipients, Vice Presidents' Council chairman John Retallick said that the whole essence of the event was to honour these great supporters of the Guild, who were nominated by members. This year he revealed Steve Munkley, executive chef at the Royal Garden Hotel, as the worthy recipient of the Council's Special Achievement Award describing him as being "at the forefront of the work we do as well as behind the scenes". "This is the 10th year of the Graduate Awards – an idea he thought of to establish a programme of education excellence in the Guild," he said. "It is now worth a tremendous amount in the eyes of the industry, and for any graduate it's great to have, but for the industry it's worth even more. He has made it the very pinnacle of the Guild's aims." He enumerated many of the tasks Munkley undertook for the Guild, one of the latest being his management of the Young National Chef of the Year competition. Other awards included the Diploma, a new award this year to recognise members that have done sterling work during the first year of membership but did not fall under any of the current award criteria. Green spoke of the achievements to date that included the re-emergence of the Channel Islands division driven by Craft Guild vice president Steve Scuffell, and the success of the Wessex Salon Culinaire which was held for the first time at Brockenhurst College. There was also the appointment of Roy Perrett as national secretary. As a longstanding Craft Guild member and national chairman of the Guild in 1980 and the chairman of the former Cookery & Food Association in 1984, Perrett was acclaimed as the ideal candidate by Green – "someone with foresight and knowledge of the Guild who can take it forward". • Further coverage will appear in the summer issue of Stockpot Honours and Awards Diploma Alberto Crisci, head chef, The Clink Mark Codgebrook, former project officer for Combined Services Challenge Sudha Shankar Saha, executive chef, Saffron Group Bronze Medal Dez Turland, group development chef, Brend Hotels David Cavalier, food director, CH&Co Steve Bacon, programme manager, Guernsey College for Further Education Terry Woolcock, head chef, Hatherley Manor Hotel, Gloucester Robert Kennedy, head chef, Sandhurst Military College Wayne Harris, development chef, NH Case Mark Rigby, senior business development chef, Premier Foods Ashley Spencer, chef lecturer, Westminster Kingsway College Peter Anderson, chef lecturer, North Warwickshire & Hinckley College Silver Medal Mrs Kay Hartley, retired craftsman Richard Hunt, executive chef, Grand Hotel, Torquay Jose Souto, chef lecturer, Westminster Kingsway College Tony Leck, chef owner, The Pavilion Restaurant, Guernsey Scott Lucas, consultant chef Fellow Mark Hill, executive chef, House of Commons Simon Stocker, chef lecturer, Westminster Kingsway College Fergus Martin, executive chef, Wyboston Lakes Daniel Ayton, executive sous chef, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Buckingham Gate Governor David Mulcahy, vice president, Craft Guild of Chefs Giovanni Fontebasso, trustee, Craft Guild of Chefs Andrew Green, chairman, Craft Guild of Chefs Honorary Membership Chris Galvin, chef patron, Galvin Restaurants Sarah Jane Barlow, PR director, Proactive Communications Robert Perry, former senior lecturer at Thames Valley University Henry Brosi, executive chef, The Dorchester Hywel Jones, executive chef, Lucknam Park Troy Smith, managing director, Oranka Juices Geoff Booth, Assistant Principal, Westminster Kingsway College Tony Reynolds, managing director, Reynolds Catering Supplies College Diploma Slough & Eton Church of England Business & Enterprise College New College Durham North Warwickshire & Hinckley College Barnet College Highlands College, Jersey, Channel Islands Food Services Wing
