Darlington school pupils take part in Ready Steady Cook contest

18th Jun 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Pupils at Darlington's Alderman Leach Primary school have been taking part in a Ready Steady Cook Competition to promote healthy eating.
More than 400 pupils aged four to 11 years (nursery through to Year 6) took part in the school's Ready Steady Cook style competition last week as part of the 'Healthy Bodies and Healthy Mind' theme. All classes were given a packet of bread mix and then had to think about what ingredients they wanted to add to create their very own speciality bread. The competition was set up to help focus children's minds on the types of food that they eat and to promote healthy eating to create a healthy body and mind. Councillor Jenny Chapman, the Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "The speciality bread competition is a great way for children to enjoy baking, whilst at the same time learn about the benefits of healthy living."
