The so called ‘beach clean’ cleared some 25 bags of rubbish from the 8.5-acre municipal park in Vauxhall, South London. Volunteers came together at Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, armed with gloves and litter bags, determined to raise awareness and take direct action against waste in public spaces.
Litter left in parks or on streets often makes its way into waterways, eventually polluting the ocean. Marine animals frequently mistake plastic and waste for food or become entangled in it, leading to injury or death.
Mark Jankovich, founder and chief executive of Delphis Eco, said: “Litter picking on Environment Day shouldn’t be a one-off. Every day is a chance to protect our planet - and when we act together, we create real impact. These clean-ups are simple but powerful ways of showing we care. Let’s clean up and save the sea, one piece of litter at a time.”
