Eden's Bristol City contract expanded by another 10 schools

15th May 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
The success of a catering operation at 126 schools has prompted Bristol City Council to increase its contract with Eden Foodservice to include an additional 10 primary schools.
The local authority has taken the decision due to the quality of service already provided by Eden Foodservice across the region, which has resulted in the uptake of meals at some schools increasing by more than 10%. Eden Foodservice provides a wide range of meals at each school including break services and lunch, with an emphasis on healthy food options using more fruit and vegetables. As a result, over 90% of meals are now prepared from fresh food on-site. Under this latest agreement, around 30 members from the existing catering service will move to Eden Foodservice under TUPE regulations, ensuring appropriate legislative compliance and employee protection. This will also support the efficient transfer of the contract to Eden Foodservice and ensure continuity at each school. Eden Foodservice was initially awarded an eight-year contract in October 2007 to handle the catering for 126 schools in the Bristol area, representing more than 30,000 children. This work had previously been undertaken by Bristol Council's Contract Service Team. Tim Scullard, Education Client Unit Manager for Bristol City Council commented: "We have been delighted with the success of the catering service since Eden Foodservice started working with the Council in 2007, which has been responsible for significant uptake in school meals. We are committed to continuing our close working relationship with Eden Foodservice that has not only achieved cost efficiencies, but also driven innovation and quality throughout our catering operation." Simon James, Managing Director of Eden Foodservice said: "This latest agreement with Bristol Council is a massive achievement for Eden Foodservice and underlines the vast amount of experience the company possesses delivering large-scale group catering contracts within schools. Eden Foodservice's priority is to offer and promote healthy eating for children and young people with a range of tasty menus and dishes, and these additional schools are recognition of the hard work that has been put in throughout the business."
