25th Mar 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Eurest Services, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, has been awarded the All Wales Catering Contract (AWCC) for three years to establish a consistent standard of operation throughout the Welsh Assembly Government sites as well as supporting local food suppliers.
Eurest Services will also supply hospitality services to buildings that do not currently have formal catering facilities. The contract is worth up to £2 million in revenue per year. As part of the contract Eurest is committed to working with the Welsh Assembly Government's food, fish and marketing division to support local small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Local food suppliers will be used to support the contract and, in addition, will have opportunities to supply Compass Group's UK-wide network. Compass Group already has three distribution centres in Wales and supplier relationships with a range of local Welsh companies including Rachel's Dairy, Abergavenny Fine Foods, Caws Cenarth Cheese, Cae Groes Bakery and Welsh Quality Meats. As well as regional produce, ethical sourcing is a key part of the AWCC. Compass Group uses FairTrade products and also has a partnership with One Water where profits go towards building water pumps in Africa – One Water is sourced from Radnor Hills. Graham Sims, managing director of Eurest Services within Compass Group UK & Ireland, said: "We are very pleased to be awarded this contract and are committed to our supply development program with the Welsh Assembly Government to identify opportunities for Welsh food produces to supply into this contract and across the Compass Group. He continued: "We already have many good relationships with Welsh suppliers and a strong presence in Wales through all sectors of Compass Group. This win with the Welsh Assembly Government is Eurest Services largest contract in Wales and will open up even more opportunities to local suppliers."
