The Food Standards Agency offers grants towards Cookits for schools

18th Feb 2010 - 00:00
Abstract
The Food Standards Agency is offering grants towards half the cost of Cookits for primary schools.
Cookit is a set of high quality cooking equipment, containing all the tools needed to teach basic cooking and baking skills to up to 12 pupils. It also includes a range of items for teacher demonstrations, activity and recipe ideas, and health and hygiene advice. It is designed to enable teachers to teach practical cooking skills and inspire children to learn about healthier eating and food safety. Focus on food executive director, Anita Cormac, said: "The Cookit is a fantastic concept that has been really well received by all primary schools. After years of experience teaching cooking to young people, we know what works well, what will be used and will last. "We also understand how carefully schools need to manage their budgets. The Cookit has been carefully designed and trialled to ensure it effectively supports cooking in schools. The equipment is robust, made to high safety specification and represents good quality and value." The Cookit has been developed for primary schools by the Focus on Food Campaign, with the support of the Food Standards Agency.
