Abstract
Some of the country’s leading chefs were amongst those who attended the opening of Wild Harvest’s new facility at New Covent Garden Market in south west London.
The acquisition of two units adjacent to its existing premises sees the available space nearly double from 3,500sq ft to just under 7,000 sq ft. "Our continued growth in both the independent and corporate sectors means that we need more space so that we can hold additional stock and offer a wider range of products in order to give our growing customer base the daily, high quality service that they expect from their fresh produce supplier," says managing director Richard Walker. "Our turnover is expected to hit £6m in 2012, up from £3m just five years ago, and so although the entire Market is due for a facelift in the near future we decided we could not wait for a project that might take as long as 18 months to complete and have acted now." Wild Harvest invited over 120 of its customers to the opening and among those attending were Rakesh Nair (Cinammon Club), Francesco Dibenedetto (Le Gavroche), Rachel Humphrey (Le Gavroche), Steve Groves (Roux Restaurant) and Keith Hooker (Aramark). Originally set up as a specialist mushroom foraging business Wild Harvest now also supplies a diverse range of fresh produce from all over the world as well as oils, meat and game, chocolate, truffles, foie gras, specialist flavourings and prime ingredients.
