Abstract
Following a few themed weeks, we're back to an open round of Fun Friday Food Facts this week:
  • Under the terms of its Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, only pork pies made within an 11 square mile zone around the town can be called Melton Mowbray pork pies
  • Running bacon under cold water before cooking will reduce shrinking by up to 50%, while cooking it in the oven at 365F will maximise flavour!
  • Popcorn has more protein than any other cereal grain. It also has more iron than eggs or roast beef
  • Most of the figs from a classic fig tree contain at least one dead wasp. Fig wasps pollinate figs and sometimes get stuck
  • The jackfruit can certainly be considered as the king of fruits. Recognized as the largest fruit on earth, it grows as big as 3 feet long and 18 inches wide, while weighing as much as 50 pounds. However, its distinctive foul odour may be off putting to some of the King's subjects.
