To celebrate the start of the UEFA European Championship we have found some fascinating German food facts as they are the host nation.
- The world record for carrying steins of beer was set in 2021 by Bavarian Oliver Strümpfel, who carried 29 in his hands for 40m
- Germany produces more 1,200 different types of sausage, from Frankfurters, Bratwurst, Munich Weisswurst and hundreds more
- When German astronaut Alexander Gerst was on the ISS space station in 2018, Maultaschen (German dumplings) were served.
- In Germany an estimated 8-9% of the population are vegetarians which equates to around seven million people.
- Mainz is Germany’s wine capital
- A total of over 5,000 different beers are produced in more than 1,350 German breweries.
- In 2022, approximately 5.1 million tons of bread and rolls were produced in Germany. The country has two bread museums, one in Ulm and the other in Ebergötzen.
