Abstract
To celebrate Pride Month we have found food facts that correspond to the six colours that make up the Pride flag.
  • Red: Madame Tallien, a royal lady of Napoleon’s court, used to bathe with fresh strawberry juice once a year.
  • Orange: Sweet oranges were mentioned in Chinese literature in 314 BC.
  • Yellow: On 20 August every year the world celebrates National Lemonade Day! Lemonade originated in the Mediterranean during the 13th century before the recipe made its way across the rest of Europe.
  • Green: Kale is the king of the greens and reckoned to be the most nutrient-dense vegetable - rich in minerals, antioxidants and vitamins. However, to reap the most benefit it’s best eaten raw.
  • Blue: When it comes to blue foods most people can think of blue cheese and blueberries, but did you know there is also a variety of potato called the Adirondack blue?
  • Purple: Until the 17th century most carrots were purple, then Dutch growers took a mutant orange strain and bred it to produce the carrot as we know it today!
