Abstract
Following the reopening of Boathouse 4 in November at Portsmouth’s historic dockyard, Great British Menu chef Ruth Hansom has launched a monthly supper club.

The monthly ticketed event opens to guests on Thursday 23rd February and promises a bespoke menu that is ‘packed full of flavour, carefully crafted by Ruth and her team, championing the very best local produce’.

Fairtrade Fortnight, an annual campaign to raise awareness of Fairtrade products, has provided the ‘inspiration’ behind Ruth’s unique February menu. Ingredients including spiced squash, Madagascan vanilla and rich chocolate, fuelling the taste buds of each guest.

Ruth spent five years at The Ritz where she was trained by executive chef John Williams. She became the first female to win the Craft Guild of Chefs Young National Chef of the Year in 2017 and reached the final of the 2020 BBC Great British Menu. Ruth joined The Princess of Shoreditch as head chef in 2021 and has achieved 3 AA rosette status, making it the only pub in London to hold the award.

As a chef partner to BaxterStorey Ruth is an empowering role model that champions the training and mentoring of female chefs. Ruth works closely with Boathouse 4’s head chef Charlie Becke and her team on training and development.

Guests on the night will also have the opportunity to meet the menus local suppliers for a more in-depth insight into the products, and the chance to purchase certain products to enjoy at home.

The £70 set menu will take guests on a culinary journey, experiencing seven courses all prepared with Fairtrade, local ingredients. The ticket price includes welcome drinks on arrival in the Boathouse 4 Mezzanine and coffee to round off the evening.

Guests can book their space by emailing Boathouse4@baxterstorey.com.
