Hampden Park stadium scores with low fat pie

11th May 2010 - 00:00
Abstract
Hampden Park has become the biggest venue in Scotland to sell a pie containing 40% less fat, 50% less saturated fat and 37% less salt.
The Scotch pie was officially unveiled at Hampden, the home of Scottish football, yesterday (10 May) and will be sold throughout the stadium for the first time at the Scottish Cup Final on Saturday (15 May) between Dundee United and Ross County. The pie has been developed in partnership between McGhee's Bakery and Pars Foods. The reduced fat snack has been trialled on a limited basis in other stadiums and schools, but Hampden Park is now the biggest venue in Scotland where all Scotch pies will be reduced fat. Prestige Scotland, the dedicated Scottish catering services division of Sodexo Prestige, supplies all catering at Hampden, and the company said the product is a major step forward towards healthier eating at major events. David Trotter, Sodexo's catering services director for Prestige Scotland at Hampden, said: "We recognise that pies are here to stay at Hampden Park so we have been looking for a product that has less fat and salt. We are delighted that the new pie is 40% less fat and a high reduction in salt. This is a big step forward for stadium catering."
