Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall inspires at first day of Public Sector Catering Expo

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall inspired caterers with his views on plastic, sustainable sourcing and heath and nutrition on the first day of the Public Sector Catering Expo yesterday (19 November).

Following Hugh, Charlie Huson from the Humane Society International talked about promoting more plant-based dishes to help the enviromnent and improve public health and Alexia Robinson who discussed the work Love British Food has been doing to promote local produce. 

Other highlights of the day included the Share Zone where Great British Bake Off winner and Love British Food Ambassador, Candice Brown, who showcased how she uses British ingredients to make a Apple and Blackberry Bakewell Tart, and LACA's School Chef of the Year Steven Cross who demonstrated how to cook a dish with allergen restrictions. 

The second day of the expo includes a keynote address from Prue Leith, who will talk about her work on the Hospital Food Review, followed by Lee Petar from Oakhill communications who will discuss the upcoming General Election. 

The Share Zone will showcase the best of public sector caterers, including demonstrations from Andy Holcroft, Care Chef of the Year winner in 2017 and hospital chef Chanel Bentley.
