Juniper Ventures CEO fundraising challenge raises thousands for 3 charities
Abstract
Organiser Michael Hales, chief executive of Juniper Ventures and former chair of The School Food People, has expressed his heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported, sponsored, donated and participated in the 3,085km virtual race fundraising campaign.

Launched to celebrate his 60th birthday back in February, and marking the anticipated culmination of a distinguished 40-year career in the hospitality industry, the campaign set out with an ambitious goal: to bring together colleagues, friends, family and industry partners to raise thousands for three charities making a difference to people’s lives every day.

The campaign has raised £16,000 in donations demonstrating the generosity, compassion and community spirit that exists throughout the hospitality sector and beyond. It was a gruelling challenge with the need for a commitment to walk an average of several miles each and every day for 100 days - three of the eleven teams managed to reach the finish line.

Funds raised through the campaign will support:

  • The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation – helping fund vital research, education and awareness initiatives aimed at making food allergies history and preventing future tragedies.
  • Hospitality Action – providing essential financial, physical and mental wellbeing support to hospitality professionals facing hardship and crisis.
  • RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) – empowering people living with sight loss through practical support, advocacy and life-changing services.

Hales commented: This has never simply been about reaching a fundraising target. It’s been about bringing people together for causes that genuinely change lives. Seeing the support from friends, family, colleagues, sponsors and the wider hospitality community has been incredibly moving.

“Every donation, every mile walked, every message of encouragement and every act of support has contributed to something truly special. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together and deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey.

“The hospitality industry has always been built on people looking after people. This campaign has been a powerful reminder of that spirit. Together we have created something meaningful, and together we are helping these incredible charities continue their vital work. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
