8th Jun 2012 - 00:00
Abstract
Daniel Clifford, creative director at Kudos and chef patron at the two-Michelin starred Midsummer House Restaurant in Cambridge, has been named as ‘main course’ winner on this year’s Great British Menu programme.
His winning creation, a slow-poached chicken, sweetcorn egg, spinach with bacon and peas, received scores of ten out of ten from all four judges and was picked as the best main dish in the UK securing him a place on the team that will cook at a prestigious Olympic banquet, airing on Friday night's programme on BBC Two. Clifford stormed through the early regional heats, recording a maximum '10' score for his chicken dish, helping him become the overall winner of the Central England region. He defeated some of the UK's top chefs along the way, bringing the creative and innovative style of Midsummer House to the general public. Clifford was one of 23 other top chefs from across the UK who were vying for the chance to cook one of the four-courses at the banquet. At Kudos, part of the Crown Group, Daniel is heavily involved in menu development and regularly runs tailored sessions for the company's leading chefs. His 'Michelin masterclasses' are a regular feature as part of Kudos chef's training and development programmes. The win is in addition to a number of big successes this year for Clifford, who was named as one of 15 chefs to make the shortlist for the AA's 'Chef's chef of the year' award and was also chosen as one of six chefs to cook at the unique Electrolux Cube on the roof of the Royal Festival Hall this Summer. Clifford said: "I was thrilled to hear my name called out and it is a real honour to cook at this banquet. The competition was as tough as it gets so I am really pleased to have won through. "When it comes to our food and produce, we have a lot to be proud of here in the UK and I am pleased to be able to help showcase the best of British in my own little way." Kudos provides food and venue management services at fixed venues across a number of market sectors in the United Kingdom. The business has an annual turnover of approx £22 million and employs over 1,500 people every year. The company operates at a diverse range of venues such as livery halls, sports stadia, conference and exhibition centres, banqueting venues, theatres and auditoriums.
