Lindley Group's Alex McCrindle dies suddenly

9th Nov 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Alex McCrindle, the chief executive officer of contract caterers Lindley Group, has passed away unexpectedly after suffering a heart attack on the 4th November 2009.
One of the founding members of the Lindley Catering management buy-in team, Alex joined forces with Paul Biffen, Sales and Marketing Director, in July 2001 to acquire Lindley Catering from entrepreneur Peter Coates. A Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, Alex had been Chief Executive Officer of Lindley since 2004. Together with Paul Biffen and Lindley's Finance Director, David Hulme, Alex was instrumental in creating the business plan which attracted investment from Sovereign Capital and has enabled Lindley to grow to the £50 million-plus turnover business it is today. Paying tribute to Alex, Paul Biffen said: "Alex had over 25 years of experience and knowledge of the entertainment and venue management industry and his guiding hand has been very much in evidence in helping us achieve our ambition for Lindley to become the leading sports and leisure venue foodservice company. "On a personal level, I have lost not only a colleague and mentor, but also a very good friend and my thoughts and condolences are with his family." David added: "Anyone who worked with Alex would know what a truly wonderful man he was and how his belief in hard work, honesty and loyalty both to his clients and the family of people that make Lindley the business that it is, will be his legacy." Lindley Group's Chairman, Ian Daly, echoed Paul and David's sentiments: "We will all miss Alex enormously. He has been a wonderful colleague and friend whose humility and integrity was recognised and respected by all who came into contact with him. Our job now is to ensure that his values and concern for the people that he worked with live on in the Lindley Group". Alex leaves behind his wife, Joyce; daughter, Cheryl; and son, Rory.
