The organisation began in 2006 by providing a soup lunch once a week to Bridport Primary School and has grown into one of the region's leading school meal providers, now delivering around 5,000 meals every day to more than 60 schools.
Since then Local Food Links has grown significantly, expanding its operations to meet increasing demand for nutritious school meals. Local Food Links has developed and adapted its service and now operates out of three kitchens in Bridport, Blandford Forum and Weymouth, supplying thousands of fresh meals to pupils each day.
Key features of the school meals:
- All meals are compliant with The School Food Standards
- All meat is British
- All fish is Marine Steward Council certified
- All eggs are free-range
- Use local, seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables, wherever possible
- Won’t add salt, GM ingredients, undesirable additives or trans fats to meals
Caroline Morgan, chief executive of Local Food Links, said: “The success of LFL can be directly attributed to our dedicated and talented staff who work hard to feed children well. Our loyal board of directors offer their expertise to ensure that the organisation is resilient and thriving.
“LFL has built up a reputation for excellence and has won several national awards including Catering Business of the Year in 2024. We enjoy great relationships with all our schools and would like to thank pupils, parents and staff for all their support over the last 20 years.”
Local Food Links says it looks forward to continuing its mission of providing nutritious and high-quality meals to children for many years to come.
