Abstract
Charity Magic Breakfast was selected by the 'i' daily newspaper to be the beneficiary of its 2020 Christmas Charity Appeal, in a year that has seen child food poverty levels increase due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The charity aims to help children in deprived areas of the UK who are at risk of starting the school day hungry. Magic Breakfast partners with schools to provide healthy and nutritious breakfasts to pupils so they have enough energy to focus for their lessons.

Magic Breakfast helps an estimated 50,000 vulnerable children who would otherwise go hungry. For just 34p Magic Breakfast can provide a schoolchild with a health breakfast to set up a morning of learning.

A Magic Breakfast partner school said: “During the lockdown we saw an increase in financial poverty for many families who previously were not eligible for FSM. This meant that families were asking, for the first time, about how they could feed their families and turned to school to support.”

Donations to Magic Breakfast:

  • £5.53 could give a child one month of Magic Breakfasts.
  • £34 could provide 100 breakfasts to schoolchildren at risk of hunger.
  • £66.29 could provide one year of term-time Magic Breakfasts for a hungry child.
  • £5,138 could provide a whole school with access to Magic Breakfast for one academic year.
