Abstract
McCain Foods has announced that Jessica Robinson and Daniel Hird, both students at Askham Bryan College, will be the first ever recipients of two McCain Foods Scholarship Endowments.
The scholarships will help towards tuition fees for the rest of their studies, including an additional graduate study year if they choose, as well as offering paid work experience within McCain or its supply chain. Judges were impressed by Jessica Robinson's commitment to her studies and the strong ties she has within the agricultural community. "Farming is a passion of mine and I am delighted to receive this award to assist me in continuing with my studies," says Jessica. Fellow student Daniel Hird distinguished himself with his strong entrepreneurial spirit which has already resulted in him helping to set up and manage a business selling lamb directly to consumers. "I feel incredibly lucky to have been given this award and I am delighted that McCain are taking an active role in encouraging young people to pursue careers in agriculture," said Daniel. Askham Bryan College principal, Liz Philip, said: "The McCain Foods scholarships will help ensure our students are well-equipped for a successful future. Degree level skills in agriculture and business will allow the industry to stay at the forefront of new technology, by providing a new generation of managers with the necessary tools to assure sustained growth and success. Askham Bryan College appreciates McCain's significant support."
