New summer treats for Sutton's Primaries

16th Apr 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Fresh strawberries and orange and mango smoothies are just some of the healthy treats children at Sutton's primary school will be tucking into this summer.
The school meals service gives children a choice of fresh fruit and vegetables in addition to a salad bar every day. New salad options also available this term include vegetable cous cous, chick pea salad, and cucumber and fresh mint salad with a low fat yogurt dressing. Sutton's menus are nutritionally assessed and comply with the government's nutrient-based standards. Cllr Tony Brett, young, executive member for Young People, said: "We take healthy eating in our schools very seriously and the new summer menu is all about providing our children with quality, healthy school lunches. At just £1.90 the meals are excellent value for money and most importantly children really enjoy them." Sutton Catering currently provides school meals to 5300 children in 39 primary and special schools across the borough every day and the number of children in Sutton choosing to have school dinners is increasing.
