Abstract
Food sharing app OLIO is on a mission to rescue and redistribute 200 million meals over the next year with the help of FareShare, Tesco, One Stop, Pret, Planet Organic and Compass Group.

Companies in the UK throw away 2.4 billion meals of edible food every year, whilst millions of people are struggling with the increased cost of living.

According to OLIO, nearly one billion hungry people could be fed on less than a quarter of the food wasted in the United States, UK and Europe. An area larger than China is used to grow food that is never eaten according to OLIO research.

Tessa Clarke & Saasha Celestial-One, co-founders of OLIO, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that these brilliant companies have already pledged to donate their unsold food to help us reach our target. But we still need lots more businesses on board if we’re going to hit 200 million meals.”

How to get involved:

  • If you’re a business that has surplus food: start working with OLIO and FareShare
  • If you’re not a business: check out the OLIO video, tag a retailer in a social media post, share spare food on OLIO or donate money to FareShare.
