Abstract
Following a 6% increase in pork pie sales during the UK’s lockdown period, a survey has revealed that the nation’s favourite accompaniments to the British classic snack are pickles (pickle, chutney, and pickled onion) and condiments (mustard, ketchup, and brown sauce).

Pork Farms commissioned the online YouGov survey, which reached more than 2,000 members of the public, to discover how people in the UK like to eat their pork pies.

The overwhelming majority of people surveyed, who eat pork pies and prefer at least one accompaniment, said they eat theirs with pickles or condiments. Salads and coleslaw came in third with 14.5%, while hot additions such as chips, gravy and baked beans followed with 10%.

Nationwide, 18-24-year-olds prefer a hot side serving, while those aged 45-54 prefer pickles.

The survey also pointed up regional differences, with those in the north more likely to eat hot accompaniments, those in the east more likely to opt for pickle and Londoners readier to reach for the mustard.
