Abstract
Recruitment agency Blue Arrow has released a Public Sector Labour Market Review 2023, which found staff recruitment and retention as one of the biggest problems facing public services.

Documenting how the economic downturn and the ongoing impact of the pandemic has affected recruitment, Blue Arrow has produced a report recommending how employers can change the focus of their approach to be more successful.

With around 330,000 vacancies across the public administration, education, health, social work and defence industries, businesses will need to address the challenges and champion the sector to achieve recruitment success.

A spokesperson for Blue Arrow said: “Vacancies in the public sector are at a record high, yet demand for healthcare, education, community support and other services has never been greater and will only grow in line with the expanding and ageing UK population.

“The report suggests solutions employers could consider such as improving the public sector’s image and championing the benefits that working in the sector brings such as flexible working, career mobility and the supportive culture of the sector.

“As a staffing specialist supplying many thousands of public sector workers to all shapes and size of companies, Blue Arrow is committed to playing its part in finding solutions that help its clients overcome talent shortages for this critical key worker occupation.”
