20th May 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
Professor Stephen Ball, director of the centre for International Hospitality Management Research at Sheffield Hallam University, has been invited to Buckingham Palace for an event marking his achievements and special contribution to the British Hospitality industry.
Professor Ball was received by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh at a reception in the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace earlier this month. The Duke of Kent and Earl of Wessex also attended along with top chefs including Gordon Ramsay, Raymond Blanc, Anton Mosimann and hotelier Sir Rocco Forte. Stephen, who is also chair of the Council for Hospitality Management Education, was asked to nominate five other people who have made an exceptional contribution to higher education in the industry to attend the reception. One of these was Mei-Lin-Cheung, an associate lecturer in hospitality subjects at Sheffield Hallam. Mei-Lin regularly gives visiting lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate hospitality management students at Sheffield Hallam. With her husband she provides industrial projects for hospitality management students to conduct, and employs hospitality placement students and graduates in her business. The event showcased how hospitality is provided within the royal household and highlighted how the royal family supports the industry through training and education.
