A slice of action

28th May 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
The City of Manchester Stadium is launching a competition to find a new Eastland's inspired tea time treat.
The Stadium is on the hunt for a cake which will be a new addition to its hospitality line up. Neil Worcester, catering and operations manager at City, explained: "Here at the Stadium, we strive to be innovative and are always looking for new ideas and recipes so our guests have a unique experience every time they visit the Stadium. "We want the people of Manchester to get a slice of the action, by sending in their Eastlands inspired cake recipes which will be served up as a bite sized treat across all the stadium's key fixtures, on or off match days, from January 2010." The Stadium team is calling on everyone to contribute their prized recipes. Worcester continued: "Eccles, Bakewell, Chorley and Yorkshire all have their own sweet snacks, and we want to add to this line up by introducing our very own Eastlands cake. So if you have a unique fairy cake, a crumbly cookie or a moist fruit loaf, we want to know your finest recipes - so send them in now." John Benson-Smith, city's consultant executive chef, added: "We are looking for a cake that reflects the sparkling culture, rich heritage and lively personality of East Manchester and its residents. Whether it's a recipe handed down through generations to a cake that uses locally sourced ingredients or simply a cake with a difference, we want to hear about it!" The deadline for entries is 25 October, when the chef and his team of culinary critics will sort through entries to find the winning recipe which will be served to hospitality guests across the Stadium. The winner of the competition will receive an all expenses paid, match day hospitality package for four at a Manchester City FC game of their choice (excluding category match A and B games), together with £100 of gift vouchers for the City Store and a half day cookery class with consultant executive chef, John Benson-Smith. There will also be prizes for second and third place.
