Abstract
Sodexo, a leading provider of on-site service solutions, has won the silver award at the annual Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards, held at the NEC in Birmingham last month.
Sodexo, which provides foodservices and facilities management across the country's schools, hospitals, military bases and workplaces, was commended for its occupational health and safety management system at Hereford County Hospital, part of Wye Valley NHS Trust. RoSPA, a safety charity, launched its awards programme 55 years ago. The scheme looks not only at accident records, but also entrants' overarching health and safety management systems, including important practices such as strong leadership and workforce involvement. David Whittall, head of safety for Sodexo Healthcare, said: "It was our first ever attempt for this award and we are delighted to have won the silver standard. The team work incredibly hard everyday, ensuring health and safety of patients, visitors and staff remain paramount, with a dedicated vision to continuous improvement. We hope to be back next year." David Rawlins, RoSPA's awards manager, added: "RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that have demonstrated their commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. Sodexo Healthcare at Hereford has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of an award."
