Abstract
Veganuary, the organisation that encourages people to try a vegan diet in January and beyond, has released the results from its six-month follow-up survey.

More than 629,000 people from nearly every country in the world took part in Veganuary 2022- excluding North Korea and Tajikistan.

Six months after completing their one-month Veganuary challenge, 80% of participants who were not vegan when they signed up have maintained a ‘dramatic reduction’ in their animal product consumption. The survey also found:

  • 28% have adopted a fully vegan diet
  • 37% are eating at least 75% less meat and dairy
  • 86% of those who are not fully vegan say they are very/extremely likely to try a vegan diet again in the future

Two-thirds of Veganuary participants who have continued a fully vegan diet have reported health improvements such as increased energy, improved mood, better skin and a desired change in their body weight.

Toni Vernelli, head of communications at Veganuary, said: These results show that Veganuary is helping people make lasting diet changes that are good for the planet and their health. Cutting out meat and dairy is the best way to cut our carbon footprint. As an added bonus, two-thirds of participants who stick with a plant-based diet feel health benefits as well. There is simply no downside to signing up for Veganuary.”
