Vacherin urges caterers to support new EU food waste initiative

25th Jan 2017 - 09:05
Abstract
Caterer Vacherin has called on the foodservice industry to reduce food waste right through the supply chain as MEPs vote on introducing tougher waste and recycling laws.

Zoe Stennett-Cox, Vacherin’s lead on sustainability & CSR, said: “We have to realise that the foodservice industry has a vital role to play in reducing food waste. We mustn't allow retail and household food waste to be the main focus of attention.”

The Circular Economy Package is a European Union plan that details legislative proposals on waste to establish a long term path for waste management and recycling.

Vacherin is pledging to convert a greater quantity of coffee grounds and rapeseed oil to biofuel in 2016/17; serving cosmetically rejected fruit and vegetables to diners; and is aiming to retain its zero-to-landfill status.
