Abstract
The College & University Business Officers (CUBO) virtual awards recognised ten CUBO members for their achievements in commercial and campus services at universities across the UK.

The awards ceremony, which took place as part of CUBO’s annual Winter Conference, was viewed by CUBO members, conference speakers and business affiliate partners.

Jo Hardman, chair of CUBO, said: “The standard of this year’s entries was impressive, demonstrating inspiring initiatives taking place before the pandemic.

“The UK’s universities are seen as some of the best in the world and the role that CUBO members play in delivering outstanding campus services is an important part in supporting this reputation.

“This year has been immensely challenging for the sector and here at CUBO we applaud and share the success of our well deserving winners.”

The University of Reading won the award for ‘Innovation in Catering’ after they introduced a smart self-service coffee machine that has boosted the use of reusable cups from 12% to 69%.

The catering team at Loughborough University won ‘Business Team of the Year’ for introducing innovations, including ‘all you can eat’ meals and creating a detailed food safety audit. The team also prepares and delivers food for a local community service.

Lancaster University won ‘Campus Experience of the Year’ after introducing green initiatives such as building a wind turbine that generates up to 20% of the university’s annual electricity consumption.

The ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ was given to Richard Kington, formerly The University of Edinburgh. You can watch the full virtual awards ceremony here.
