7th Jul 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
This year's LACA Conference, “On Course for Success” is kicking off this Thursday (10-11 July) at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole and will be concentrating on the key challenges facing school caterers as well as looking at ways of boosting Secondary School meals uptake.
Key speakers include Judy Hargadon, chief executive of the School Food Trust; Richard Gerver, Independent Education Advisor and former Head of Grange Primary School, and Robert Donelan, Senior Strategic Consultant, Kids Industries and former Head of Humanities at s Secondary School. Chairing the conference will be veteran presenter, Michael Rodd of BBC Tomorrow's World Fame. This year, every single member of the audience will be able to express their view using a new electronic audience reaction counter. This allows everyone to have their say on all the key topics covered by the conference. The Grand Finale speaker is boxer Barry McGuigan MBE, aiming to make this year's conference a knockout. For those unable to attend the conference, the School Meals Exhibition will be open this year to all school meal providers, both LACA members and non-LACA members. Entry to this exhibition, which will be featuring around 150 of the education catering industry's top suppliers of food, beverages, services and equipment, will be free of charge. Other special features of the event include Finishing Touches, which is a static display competition allowing staff employed in any aspect of local authority catering to show off their hidden talents not normally seen during their everyday profession. Entries will be judged during the conference and can be viewed between 12-4.30pm on Thursday (10 July). For enquiries of the event call the hotline 08707 434001.
