Abstract
The Phat Pasty Co has unveiled its latest innovation for the education catering sector - the Phat Eat Better sausage rolls.

Designed to support the drive for improved sustainability, British-sourced ingredients and better nutrition across public sector catering, these new hybrid sausage rolls offer a smarter solution for school menus.

Crafted with a 50/50 blend of British Red Tractor Pork and a plant-based wheat protein mix, Phat Eat Better sausage rolls offer all the flavour and comfort of a traditional sausage roll – with a healthier, more sustainable, planet-friendly twist.

Available in two sizes – a 4” version ideal for primary schools and a 6” version suited for secondary schools – the products meet Food for Life standards and align with the 2024 Salt Guidelines.

These new hybrids are 5% lower in fat, 25% higher in protein and 10% higher in fibre, with both meeting the School Food Standards for portion size and nutrition.

Perfect for both main meals and grab & go formats, the sausage rolls are quick to bake-off, easy to portion, and help reduce food waste – ideal for busy school kitchens looking for efficiency and value.

Paul Clark, Phat controller at The Phat Pasty Co, said: “These new sausage rolls are unlike anything else on the market and reflect what today’s schools are asking for - familiar favourites that tick the boxes for nutrition, sustainability, and simplicity. We’re proud to support school caterers with options that children love, and that align with national standards and values.”

The new Phat Eat Better sausage rolls sit alongside Phat Pasty’s expanding schools plant-based range, which includes the Vegan Sausage Roll and the Mexican Bean Vegan Roll. All products are made in a nut-free facility, with plant-based options tested for milk and egg to ensure they are truly vegan and suitable for a broader range of dietary needs.
