1st Feb 2011 - 00:00
Abstract
With just seven weeks to go, Jay Ramsay, business development executive of COREcruitment, never thought she would be faced with the challenge of a lifetime – to trek the Great Wall of China. She shares her thoughts on taking on the hike and what it means to her to succeed and exceed her combined target of £14k.
Ramsay will be donning her walking boots along with 23 other hospitality colleagues during the 25 March to 3 April in aid of the Springboard Charity, which helps young, unemployed and disadvantaged people to find careers in the hospitality industry. Along with her fellow trekkers, Ramsay will walk for approximately four hour every day, climbing thousands of steps that loop along the mountains either side of the Gubeikou Gateway. We find out more about how Ramsay is preparing to take on the wall. Background of COREcruitment COREcruitment was founded in 2005 by Managing Director – Krishnan Doyle. We are a recruitment consultancy with years of experience in placing high calibre management into a broad range of clients within the hospitality and services industry. In the team, we all have ex-hospitality backgrounds, love the industry we work in and try to give back where we can. What does your day to day job involve? My love and passion for food and the hospitality industry is the reason why I work at COREcruitment today. Although not directly working in a hotel or restaurant, I am heavily involved within the industry. I will have been at COREcruitment for two years in August this year as business development executive and can honestly say that I've loved every minute of it. It is a great agency to work for and I think that boils down to a fantastic team. All of our consultants come from a hospitality or operational background, so really understand the industry and achieve the best results for our clients. My role within the company is to create long standing relationships with new and existing clients and ascertain what clients really want to achieve from agencies. I have helped to develop the business here in the UK and also ventured into new markets. We have grown quite rapidly over the last year and developed a strong client base within the Middle East, Africa and have some new and exciting opportunities coming up soon........ Sum yourself up in one sentence I would like to think of myself as a very lively, friendly character always prepared for a challenge! What are your hobbies? I am a true believer in ensuring that you get your life/work balance down to a tee! Outside of work I try to ensure that I spend a lot of time with family and friends and often hold dinner parties for all to enjoy. I'm a massive fan of Jamie Oliver and spend a lot of my spare time either watching cookery programmes, reading cookery books looking for new recipes and putting them all to the test! Basically cooking is my passion and main hobby overall which I guess has led me into a career within the hospitality industry. I also love going to the theatre and take every opportunity to go and see all of the west end shows. I have only lived down south for just under three years so never had the luxury of being able to go and enjoy the theatre at the drop of a hat. It was always a Christmas treat spending a weekend in London so it's great that I can now do this so easily. I spend a lot of time commuting into London on the train so I tend to read a lot of novels to make the time pass by quickly. My favourite authors are Sophie Kinsella, Martina Cole and Karen Rose. A mixture of light hearted girly novels and crime investigations. If I am honest, the gym and keeping fit has only really started to come into the equation due to the challenge of the China trek coming up in just over seven weeks. Very scary!........... How did it come about you taking on this kind of challenge? The MD- Krishnan and I were attending one of the Arena Lunches – with chief executive at SSP – Andrew Lynch. I have never taken on any form of fundraising event before and really wanted to challenge myself and raise money for a great cause – The Springboard Charity. It is a very recognised charity and we attend all of their fundraising events throughout the year. What does The Springboard Charity mean to you? It is such an amazing charity. There are a lot of charities ou
