22nd Feb 2011 - 00:00
Abstract
Nestlé Professional has announced the five successful colleges going forward to compete in the grand final of its premier student catering competition Toque d'Or.
These include: Belfast Metropolitan College, Blackpool & The Fylde College, Colchester Institute, Grimsby Institute of Further Education and University College Birmingham (UCB). Nestlé said the regional heats showcased some of the most exciting dishes to be prepared in the history of the competition. Managing director Neil Stephens commented: "This year looks set to be one of the most competitive and interesting grand finals we have ever experienced. "The raw talent and level of skill is incredibly impressive. It is great to see the colleges and the students embracing Nestlé Toque d'Or. It really is a unique event, which provides a lifetime experience in one competition. The value cannot be underestimated. We have seen some incredibly talented individuals take part in the competition and go on to achieve real success in this dynamic sector." Head judge Tony Robertson said: "I have been blown away by what I have seen in the regional heats. One dessert in particular left me speechless and, with enthusiasm and fighting spirit in no shortage, the finals will be sure to impress." In four months' time the five teams will head for the grand finals at the BBC Summer Good Food Show at the NEC in Birmingham, which runs from June 15-19, and where each day a college must cook and serve 100 covers. Nestlé said the benchmark has been set high and the countdown now begins to the grand finals. • For further information, visit the Nestlé Toque d'Or website www.nestle-toquedor.co.uk or follow the event on Facebook
