Abstract
At a gala dinner at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow last night (May 13th), the winners of the 2026 ASSIST-FM 2026 Awards were announced, with Christopher Herd of Tayside Contracts named the Local Authority Cook of the Year.

The dishes that were served to guests featured the meals created by the finalists in this year’s competition, who comprised Maria Millar from East Lothian and Michelle Muir from Stirling Council alongside winner Christopher.

Between them they provided a starter of Arbroath Smokie and leek tartlet, a main course of chicken roulade, and a dessert of summer fruit pavlova.

This year’s Special Recognition Award was presented to Christina Boyle of Argyll & Bute Council, who is the ASSIST-FM treasurer, while Rebecca Barber of Stirling Council was named winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Catering Services Award.

And Stirling Council also provided the winners of the Innovation Award, which went to Norma Cochrane and Barbara Fotheringham.

This year’s awards night host was former ASSIST-FM chair Christopher Ross and the charity raffle at the event raised money for Samaritans Scotland following a presentation from ASSIST-FM committee member Neil Beattie from Shetland, who cycled over 1,000 miles in 14 days to visit every Samaritans office in Scotland last summer.
