Atlantic Foods offsets 446 tonnes of carbon dioxide

1st Dec 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Atlantic Foods has offset over 446 tonnes of carbon dioxide, through supporting energy efficiency projects in Africa.
During the last 18 months Atlantic Foods has followed a CarbonZero commitment, taking steps to minimise its carbon footprint and offset the remainder by working with carbon management company, co2balance on their African Energy Efficient Stove Project. The project builds energy saving cooking stoves for families along the coastal region of Mombasa in Kenya, which replace fuel intensive, open fires and reduce the amount of firewood needed for cooking by over 50%, thereby preventing the release of carbon emissions through the reduction in burning firewood. Nigel Parkes, commercial director, Atlantic Foods explained more: "Reducing environmental impact is an important issue to both us and our customers. We are proud to be a CarbonZero company and to support worthwhile projects such as the African Energy Efficient Stove Project that not only make a positive contribution towards halting climate change but benefit the people of Mombasa."
