Abstract
The BaxterStorey catering team at City of Glasgow College University has been recognised with the ‘Healthier Scotland Award’ at the delayed 2020 CIS Excellence Awards.

The team received praise for their ‘innovative approach’ to delivering nutritious and well balanced meals to those within the education sector.

Alison Miller, operations manager, said: “Healthy choices are especially important in an educational environment due to the links between good nutrition, concentration and focus. We always want to offer the best to our students at such an important stage of their lives and development.”

The judges were impressed with the catering team who have been using locally sourced Scottish ingredients. In partnership with Springboard, the team have introduced weekly workshops for schoolchildren to discuss the benefits of healthy living.

Regional managing director, Jeremy Wood commented: “As healthy eating continues to be important to our customers and clients, we recognise that we have a responsibility to provide delicious and nutritious food. At the heart of everything we do is a focus on using fresh, locally sourced, seasonal ingredients so that our food is inherently healthy.

“From Essentials of Nutrition training courses to introducing our loyalty APP to encourage the uptake of fruit smoothies and healthy snack items, we ensure our food is fresh and seasonal, giving our customers choice to choose the best dish or snack to get them through the day.”
