Abstract
With over 850,000 people in the UK struggling with dementia, foodservice provider Bidfood has launched a dementia guide to help operators cater with confidence.

In aid of World Alzheimer’s month this September it was more poignant than ever for Bidfood to focus on ways to support its customers within the care sector.

The ‘Catering with confidence: dementia guide’ aims to help operators support residents living with dementia by offering advice, top tips and ‘inspiring’ recipes. The recipes focus on easily consumed finger food, such as kipper scotch eggs, blueberry & brie tarts and vegan cupcakes with salted caramel ganache.

Within the guide there is a link to Bidfood’s in-depth Caterers Campus online learning module to help customers gain the knowledge, key skills and tools they need to support those suffering with dementia.

Bidfood has also launched a podcast in partnership with Rob Byrom, hospitality manager at Hallmark Care Homes, to delve deeper into the subject by sharing case studies, insight and best practice to support the industry.

Gemma Benford, head of customer marketing at Bidfood, commented: “Our amazing healthcare customers support a wide range of people across the country living with dementia on a daily basis.

“As part of this, we know how important it is to feed residents nutritious, tasty and easy on-the-go meals to suit their lifestyle needs, but also well-loved comfort food or nostalgic meals that feel familiar.

“This is why, we wanted to show our support for World Alzheimer’s month, so thought it would be the perfect time to create a set of useful tools, tips and recipes to better support our customers on their mission to look after the UK’s residents living with the disease.”
